In Bariloche we said goodbye to our Japanese motorcycle friend Yuki (who was still having trouble getting her bike fixed) and turned east for Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, once you ride down from the Andes, the 1600km stretch to Buenos Aires turns into a very boring km countdown. The road is flat and straight, leading through [...]

So after a few days of R&R, the obligatory visit to Tierra del Fuego National Park and an oil change for the bikes, we set off north back the way we came. The winds had picked up noticably and were now making the ride difficult. Camping got even more complicated when one our tent poles [...]

Riding out of Santos felt great!! A bit like riding out of Singapore on the first day actually - a sort of deja vu… We were reluctantly leaving a very good new friend in Reynaldo (and his cozy house), but we were bursting to see what South America had to offer us. The first kilometers [...]

The bad karma can be traced back to Cuba - probably around the time they stole our wallet. From then on it’s been down hill all the way. On the first day in Brazil we found out that our ‘internet friend’ Manuel, did not arrange for the Africa Twin to be transferred to a nearby [...]

We’re still in Brazil. Things are moving VERY slowly. We’ve spent the last few days fighting beaurocracy, mismanagement, ignorance and general chaos (the full story in the our blog…). At the moment, most of Brazil and half of South America is under water. It is raining constantly! And even when it’s not raining, the +80% [...]

That’s what we thought anyway… but the customs clearance of the Africa Twin has turned into a nightmare! In fact, the bike is not even in the port it was supposed to be, but 1,000km way!! Thankfully still in Brazil
We tracked it down to the port of Santos, not far from Sao Paolo. That’s [...]

Five weeks in Cuba is way TOO LONG for independent travelers like us!! It might be OK for the package tourist looking to relax on the beach, but for somebody on a tight budget that’s seeking an authentic Cuban experience it can be really frustrating… for Cuba is a country of contrasts.
As a socialist system, [...]

The flight from St.Martin to Kingston was short, yet it felt like we had traveled a long way. Jamaica is a lot poorer than its Caribbean cousin and its neglected capital shows it. Most tourists stay in luxury resorts on the north coast, so very little money filters down to the rest of the country. [...]

We made it!! We sailed across the Atlantic!
On 19 Nov, after 22 days at sea, we set foot on the island of St.Martin… in the CARIBBEAN!!!
How did we get here? Well let’s back up a little bit… to Las Palmas.
We had arrived there (by ferry) from the island of Lanzarote. Looking to save some precious [...]

We have been super lucky and found a boat on the first day of searching!
It sails from the Canary Islands to the island of St.Martin on the Caribbean today!
We expect the voyage to take around 20 days (arriving in St.Martin around 19 Oct).
We’re sailing on a Catamaran - Lagoon400 (12 meters).
The last two days have [...]
