We made it!! We sailed across the Atlantic!
On 19 Nov, after 22 days at sea, we set foot on the island of St.Martin… in the CARIBBEAN!!!
How did we get here? Well let’s back up a little bit… to Las Palmas.
We had arrived there (by ferry) from the island of Lanzarote. Looking to save some precious [...]

We have been super lucky and found a boat on the first day of searching!
It sails from the Canary Islands to the island of St.Martin on the Caribbean today!
We expect the voyage to take around 20 days (arriving in St.Martin around 19 Oct).
We’re sailing on a Catamaran - Lagoon400 (12 meters).
The last two days have [...]

With the Africa Twin on the way to Brazil and the Access headed the other way to Poland, we were left without wheels and a little lonely… We’re in ‘backpacker mode’ now, relying solely on trains, buses and taxis. It’s definitely a bigger strain on the budget and a lot more restrictive!
We were still keen [...]

Two nights in Marrakech and we were getting desperate. Trying to cope with the crowds and the noise, having gotten used to the solitude of the Sahara, was difficult. Snake charmers, shoe shiners, food stall attendants and hordes of ‘fly-in’ tourists, all getting in our faces. And all this without a beer in sight! Hashish [...]

We left Singapore on 20 April, 2008. The mission was simple - return to our homeland on two wheels - at the same time saving on air fares. So far we’ve visited 50 countries and covered over 80,000km (half of that off-road). We’ve loved every minute of it and at this stage can’t imagine [...]

During the two night stop in Nouakchott we rested a bit and did some servicing on Iza’s bike. We replaced the worn out chain and a lost ‘kicker’ for the kick starter, re-welded the cracked engine guards, re-attached the exhaust to the engine and tightened some more loose screws. All in all, a small list [...]

The wet continues… It’s rained almost every day since we entered Liberia. Not such a big deal on the tarmac, but get on any of the jungle pistes and you slow down to walking pace. We were still keen however to cross into Senegal using the more obscure route via the village of Mali. We [...]

Monrovia has got ridiculously expensive accommodation, so having picked up the Sierra Leone visa (including permits for the bikes) the same day, we were keen to hit the road immediately. However, maintenance required on the Access meant we had to overnight in the Liberian capital. The cheapest motel we could find was clean enough, but [...]

Well it had to happen. If you travel through Africa long enough, you’re more than likely to contract malaria. And we both picked it up… at the same time! Maybe it was the same mozzie that got us? Luckily we were still in Ghana and close to good medical help, though the half day spent [...]
