After an 18 hour ferry trip we reach the port town of Vanino on mainland Russia.

The ferry from Wakkanai to Korsakov takes just over 5 hours. We travel with a French couple - Fred and Lydia - that we met back in Tokyo. They are riding a BMW F650 Dakar and a Suzuki DR350.

Unfortunately, during both days spent at Mt.Fuji it was overcast. So we did not have a chance to see it reflecting off the lake we were camped at or get that dream shot of the Africa Twin in its foreground. However, there’s always next time…

We spent our last night on the north coast of Honshu (Japan’s largest island) and camped nearby the fishing village of Hamasaka. It is the low season in Japan, so we had the whole beachfront campsite to ourselves. Next stop was Osaka.
